Pst Louis and Lizette du Piesanie
|
Durbanville is situated approximately 30km outside of Cape Town,
South Africa. It was
originally a small town that was known as a resting place and
economic hub for pioneers
heading north in search of riches and wealth.
Today, Durbanville
has become one of the fastest growing residential and business areas
in the Western Cape. It’s a young vibrant community with great
schools, churches
and businesses . . . a place booming with potential.
Louis and Lizette
du Piesanie have always had a dream of a church where people can
feel welcome, be encouraged and equipped for every day life.
In Louis’ own
words, “Since our first church service held in 2000, my love for
the local church
has just grown. My personal vision is to see people live out their
full destiny in Christ.
I believe that your destiny can only be lived out when believers are
part of a church family.
|
Within “family” there is room to learn, grow, make mistakes and to
be accountable towards
one another. Family life is not something we should only strive to
do on Sundays – it is
something that we have to make part of our daily living.”
Today, Durbanville
Family Church is far more than just a Sunday “church service” – we
are
a group of people who are committed to Jesus Christ and to one
another. “Family” is not
only something embedded in our church name, it is who we are
and what we live out.
Making it through
life’s battles is tough, especially when you face them on your own.
In times like
these you need more than advice – you need a “family”. Our church
is a
family for those who need help, support and encouragement. It’s important
that you understand that God uses people to encourage one another
through
meaningful relationships.
At Durbanville
Family Church, meaningful friendships are nurtured and developed
through our
Mentoring men and women groups, as well as small groups. These
relationships make a
difference in our spiritual lives as well as our everyday lives –
these are people that are
there for you when life gets you down.
If you need to
speak to someone urgently, we have a free, appointment based
counseling
ministry service. These are trained counselors who can help and
advise you through your
difficult situation.

GOD
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He
has eternally existed in three persons: the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and
are one God.
Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew
28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14
MAN
Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be
like Him in character. He is the supreme object of
God´s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he
is marred by an attitude of
disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates man
from God.
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans
3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2
ETERNITY
Man was created to exist forever. He will either
exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in
union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally
separated from God is Hell. To
be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are
places of eternal existence.
John 3:16; John 2:25; John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23;
Revelation 20:15; 1 John 5:11-12;
Matthew 25:31-46
JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal
with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and
offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by
dying on a cross. He arose from
the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and
death. He ascended to
Heaven´s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of
kings, and Lord of lords.
Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5,
14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4;
Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13
SALVATION
Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can
never make up for his sin by self-improvement or
good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God´s offer of
forgiveness can man be saved
from sin´s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives
Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12;
Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1
ETERNAL SECURITY
Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus
Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for
eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not
by the self-effort of the
Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this
security.
John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25;
10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5
THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the
Son as God. He is present in the world to make
men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every
Christian from the moment of
salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living,
understanding of spiritual truth, and
guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under
His control daily.
2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts
1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13;
Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1
THE BIBLE
The Bible is God´s word to all men. It was
written by human authors, under the supernatural
guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for
Christian beliefs and living.
Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of
error.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13;
Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5
WATER BAPTISM
Baptism, or full immersion in water, is an act of
Biblical obedience that is a symbolic sign of the
believer’s death, burial and resurrection in Christ Jesus. Matthew
28:19; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4
THE CHURCH
At the time of His ascension into Heaven Jesus
Christ gifted the church with living ministry
expressions of Himself through apostles, prophets, evangelists,
pastors and teachers, for the
building up of the Body of Christ and the equipping of the believers
to the work of service. It is
the commission of the Church to go into the whole world to preach
the gospel and extend the
Kingdom of God. Ephesians 4:11-13;
Matthew 24:14
RETURN OF JESUS
The Bible speaks of a physical, triumphant return
of Jesus Christ to an overcoming and glorious
Church. 1 Thessalonians 4: 14-18
Each church
family has their own unique ‘flavour’ or
characteristics, just like any family. In some families
you can gulp juice straight from the bottle (horror!)
and in other families this is frowned upon. Every family
is different. (Some families are more different than
others …)
So what characterises DFC?
In our family, it’s all about God. He made us and we’re
here for Him. He’s at the head of our family table and
no one displaces Him.
Our family is very close to our hearts – young, old,
wayward and goody-goody. We just love them all. We are
connected to each other by spiritual family ties. Here,
relationships are non-negotiable: whatever happens,
we’re still family. It’s a really safe place to be.
We allow people to be weird. Weird is good. Each family
member has their place and function in the family or
body. If you’re a hand, the eyeball may be a bit weird
to you; but without the eye, you’re in the dark.
We love family to get involved in family activities -
serving each other and getting to know one another.
There are some fascinating people to meet right under
your nose. Learn to get along with other family members.
(We’re going to be in heaven together for a really,
really long time.)
We also need to grow up; you can’t stay in nappies
forever. This might be a new concept for some, but God
is into maturity; He wants us to grow more Christ-like
every day. This is a process and in this process, we can
look up to those who are more mature than us, compare
notes with those alongside us and lend a helping hand to
those who are less mature than ourselves.
Our family is wonderful and loving and fun but we also
need to function outside the family. God didn’t place us
in this world to flock together in a holy huddle like
ants in a sugar bowl. He placed us here to reach out to
His lost sheep – the ones His heart breaks for. God
wants us to take His Kingdom with us wherever we go: in
Durbanville, in Cape Town, in South Africa and in the
rest of the world.
What now?
If you’re in the family, get to know your family better.
If you’re visiting, take a look around you and if you
feel like you’ve come home, or if you’d like DFC to be
your home, contact the church office to find out about
the next membership course. This course will just tell
you a bit more about how our family functions and how to
be involved in DFC. If DFC is not your family, keep
looking. God will add you to a church family somewhere.
He wants you to be in His body, not wandering out
somewhere all by yourself.
